The new generation in cruising tenders

The design brief is straightforward: take a classic plumb bow tender with a nice sheer line and a high free board side profile; combine it with a wide planshape with sharp water release edges promoting an early planing, easily driven hull with the least horse power possible. Build it light. Make it dry and stable.

OCTenders brings innovation, technology and real life cruising experience with a dash of kiwi ingenuity to the tender market.

Dry.

With a sharp plumb bow and classic straight gunwales, OC300 gives you the dry ride you deserve, whether ferrying supplies, facing choppy conditions or arriving in your best for an afternoon sundowner.

Light.

Made from a Kevlar and carbon reinforced composite foam sandwich material, and weighing in at only 42kg/92lb it is easy to handle in all important cruising situations such as shore landing, hauling on deck or lifting on davits.

Stable.

The wide planshape combined with an all-round closed cell foam rubrail gives the OC300 the stability you need to load/unload, re-board from the water easily and move around on the go.

The Project

During their 7 years circumnavigation Russell & Karin Carlyon realized that none of the tenders available in the market provided all of the key aspects they felt were important for a good tender.

Russell’s background as a competitive windsurfer and high performance board builder provided us with the confidence to utilize high tech materials to build a complex light weight structure that we were looking for.

To complete the design brief Russell collaborated with his old business partner of 17 years, Kevin Trotter from Styrotech CNC. Together they digitalized Russell’s concept and CNC milled the plugs of the design.

The Ideals

We Believe:

  • Cruising tenders should be light enough to be pulled up above the high tide line easily by a cruising couple.
  • Cruising tenders should be a dry, stable experience.
  • The tenders we use every day should stand up to the task.
  • Manufacturers of all tenders should take cruiser's safety seriously.
  • Cruising tenders should have a full rubrail for protection and total flotation.
  • Maintenance of cruising tenders should be done easily, with materials at hand, in any location on the planet and it should not cost the earth.
  • Maintenance time on your tender should not surpass maintenance time on your main boat.
  • It is possible to have a tender which fulfills most of our cruising needs, not just some.
